Flipping and rotating are often confused, but they do completely different things to an image. Understanding the difference helps you fix the exact issue you're dealing with.

Flipping: Mirroring an Image

Flipping creates a mirror image โ€” either horizontally (left becomes right) or vertically (top becomes bottom). Text and asymmetric details in a flipped image will appear backwards. This is different from rotation because the image's overall orientation doesn't change, only its mirror direction.

Rotating: Turning an Image

Rotating spins the image around its center by a chosen angle (commonly 90ยฐ, 180ยฐ, or 270ยฐ), without mirroring anything. A photo taken sideways, for example, needs rotating โ€” not flipping โ€” to appear upright.
